Full-Time Computer Network Technician

Job Description:

Beacon Technologies has an immediate opening for a full-time on-site computer and server network technician. Candidate should have 1-2 years experience working with Microsoft Server products such as Win2k3 and Exchange. MCSE certification in Win2k/2k3 is preferred. You will answer customer telephone calls, provide remote technical support from our Kennett Square and Coatesville offices, and travel to customer sites to resolve customer issues. Hours are Monday though Friday 8am-5pm. You will be on-call for limited after-hours emergencies approximately one weeks per month. In addition to using your technical expertise, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, communicating with customers and your supervisor, and keeping thorough documentation of each service request in our service management software. Keen troubleshooting skills and the ability to break a complex problem into simple component parts are absolutely essential.

Job Details:

Required technical skills include:

  • Windows command line interface
  • Active Directory administration and installation
  • Group policy
  • TCP/IP networking, including DNS and DHCP
  • Experience with spyware and virus removal
  • SMTP, preferably Exchange or spam filtering
  • Registry modification
  • Batch file creation and Windows scripting
  • NTFS permissions, share permissions, and security groups
  • Expert knowledge of device manager and computer hardware

 Applicant MUST:

  • Readily troubleshoot complex problems by logically reducing the number of variables in a methodical fashion, including global catalog, server roles, replication, and DNS
  • Patiently and quickly locate, search, and understand server log files
  • Patiently and quickly search, read, and comprehend product documentation and knowledge base articles in order to solve a problem or install a new service
  • Understand the importance of data security practices and be able to monitor and implement procedures for backup, software patches, antivirus, antispyware, and firewall maintenance
  • Work both independently and on a team, depending on the project
  • Have excellent communication skills in order to efficiently listen to customer inquiries and explain actions taken towards issue resolution to customers and supervisor
  • Understand the critical importance of keeping customers satisfied and work accordingly

Experience with data cabling, laser printer repair, linux, and Mac is helpful.

This job requires sustained periods of sitting, standing, and moving from workstation to workstation. The employee must occasionally lift and move equipment up to approximately 100 pounds. Use of hands and eyes is required to view and manipulate physical equipment components. Fluent verbal and written English language skills are required. Valid drivers license and reliable transportation are required. All employees are subject to regular drug screening as a condition of employment.

Job Compensation:

Pay will be hourly based on a 40-hour work week with occasional overtime opportunities. Hourly wage will be determined based on experience and abilities.

Please note that this is an entry-level, suburban server administrator position best suited for an individual with 1-2 years experience working with Microsoft servers who is ready to become an intermediate-level server administrator and grow with us. Pay will be appropriate.
